BURNSVILLE, Minn. — The Fargo Invaders, behind a strong second-half defense, picked up a 20-14 victory over the St. Paul Pioneers, advancing to the Northern Elite Football League Championship Saturday night.
With the Pioneers leading 14-7 at halftime, the Invaders put up 13 unanswered points in the third quarter, while the defense suffocated the Pioneers in the last two quarters.
The Invaders tied the game when quarterback Ja'vonte Johnson connected with wide receiver Constant Jackson for a 75-yard touchdown. Johnson's three-yard rushing score then gave the Invaders the lead for good towards the end of the third quarter.
Johnson completed 17 of 33 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson was the leading rushing with 33 yards, while Vince Holmes recorded an interception for the Invaders defense.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Sioux City Stampede defeated the Northland Bulls 36-14 to advance to the NEFL Elite Bowl for the second straight season.
The Stampede capitalized on Northland mistakes in the first half scoring on a punt return and scoring a touchdown in the last few seconds of the half after an interception. The herd carried their momentum into the second half, outscoring Northland 16-8.
Sioux City will take on the Fargo Invaders in the Elite Bowl. The Stampede are the higher seeded team so they will host. The game is scheduled for August 10th at 7:00 pm at Memorial Field.
Stampede are (5-0) against the Invaders, with a win in 2017 and two in each of the 2018 & 2019 NEFL seasons.
Both Teams are in their 6th Season and seeking a 3rd Title -
